“Modern Family Portraits” could be interpreted 1,000 different ways. What is modern? Isn’t “modern” a fleeting notion? Popular today and lame tomorrow? To me, modern is simply a fresh take on an old idea.
Believe it or not, I used to DREAD the idea of doing any kind of portrait photography. Portrait photography in my mind consisted of boring studio photo shoots with lame backdrops and even lamer props (ie: greek columns). You stand here, and you here, put your hand here, smile, tilt your head a little more, ok a little more, perfect, snap, repeat. So when I say “modern family portraits”, you’ll have a better understanding why I refer to them as modern.
The Caldwell’s are without a doubt one of the coolest, most down to earth families on the planet. One of the things that most impressed me with this family was the sense of love they all displayed for one another. There were no pretenses, no family member was left out. They ALL love each other. Through and through. It’s easy to see and was amazing to witness.
This particular day in December was extremely cold and extremely windy. Two conditions that would normally yield not-so-great results. I had to do a fair amount of convincing that it was going to be ok and the pictures would still turn out great. Needless to say, the family was thrilled to get their photos back. They even shared with me a great story:
“Cameron! [Our] pictures are absolutely beautiful! I love that you captured our goofiness. I don’t think any photographer we have worked with has been able to do that and dad hasn’t ever been happier about our family pictures. We didn’t tell mom the pictures were done yesterday and we printed some off and put them in a frame… She cried… Success! Haha. So thanks again for working with us and being so awesome at what you do.”
Enough talk. Here are the pictures! Please do not forget to comment and share if you like what you see!
